Newcastle United have agreed a £12m fee with Tottenham for England winger Andros Townsend.
United have been in discussions with Spurs over Townsend for
much of January after the 24-year-old fell out of favour at White Hart
Lane and Sky Sports News HQ understands he will finalise personal terms and undergo his medical on Wednesday.Having already signed Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet for a combined cost of £17m this month, Newcastle look poised to spend again in their bid to escape relegation.
Townsend was dropped by Tottenham for two weeks in November after a bust-up with fitness coach Nathan Gardiner and has not featured for the first team since October 22.
Fellow academy graduate Josh Onomah has since overtaken Townsend in boss Mauricio Pochettino's plans and he has been playing for the U21 side to keep himself fit.
