A total of 29,000 Nigerians have been penned for deportation from the United Kingdom, according to reports.
In
a recent report on Punch Newspaper, the United Kingdom is reportedly
working with the Federal Government of Nigeria to deport Nigerians
living in the country illegally.
The report
further revealed that the exercise, which is expected to commence soon
after fulfillment of all legal obligations by both government, is a
common knowledge of authorities involved which include the UK High
Commission as well as the Nigerian High Commission in London.
Though the acting Nigeria High Commissioner, Olukunle Bamgbose
expressed worry over the move, he insisted that due process must be
followed before the affected Nigerians are really deported from the UK
to Nigeria.
In a related development, the UK
stated that it would continue to maintain dialogue with the Nigerian
Government on the sensitive matter so as to preserve the relationship
between both countries.
